+ lots of sun and you can also rock climb and surfing in the sun the same day.

- the snow can recede back from the sea line in many places.

The skiing

The Lofoten islands are an extensive archipelago in to the ocean. These mountains are some of the oldest visible mountains in the world and have mesmerized people since the first humans moved here 6000 years ago.

Skiing in Lofoten is nothing new. A 2000 year old ski was discovered in some swampland outside Henningsvaer. At that time the skis where used for hunting and easier access and movement. Today we use the skis for fun, recreation and exploring.

With mountains between 700 and 1100 meters above sea level there are plenty of opportunities for all levels. We have steep couloirs and wide open slopes. You can ski for 600m or 2000m, it will all depend on your fitness and motivation.

With roads along the coastline we have endless access to beautiful ski terrain with different aspect and angels. This gives us a flexibility to choose the best snow and safest terrain every day.

Itinerary

Our guides will choose the best terrain for the groups fitness and experience level every day. We dont make any week plans because we need to adapt to weather, snow conditions and group. We are in the middle of all the great skiing - so driving farther than 30 minutes is rare. The guides from Northern Alpine Guides will make sure you have an amazing day out in the snow and bring you safely back to Lofoten Ski Lodge where snacks, waffels and sauna are waiting.

Expect tired legs, big smiles and memories for a lifetime!

Fitness and experience

To fully enjoy ski touring in Lofoten you need some prior experience with ski touring. If you are a beginner we can organize a intro course to ski touring. This will give you several techniques to help you move efficiently and ski safely.

There are no lifts in Lofoten (except a small one in Svolvaer). All of our tours are depending on us skinning up and skiing down. To be able to ski and skin for 5-7 hours your fitness level need to be normal to good. Prior to a ski vacation we recommend to train stamina and strength in your legs. Our guides will adapt and make sure to fit the day plan with your fitness and experience.

Equipment

Prior to your trip we will send you an equipment list. Make sure to read this and that your equipment are working, fitting and ready to ski.

We have equipment for rent if needed or if you want to travel light.

We rent out:

  • Volkl skis
  • Poles
  • Probes
  • Shovels
  • Transceivers
  • Ice axes
  • Boot crampons
